Justin & Nic are two gents who have the most incredible love for each other. They are quirky and unique, and their wedding day perfectly represented their personalities. We had the most amazing time capturing their wedding day! Here are a few words from the couple:

Tell us your love story! How did it all start and how did your journey lead to a proposal?

Nic was the grand master when it comes to secret planning.
Nic knows that Justin is a huge Pokemon fan and bought him a Pikachu onesie. He then managed to get Justin to plan a weekend away over his birthday and to bring his onsie with.

Justin planned a romantic weekend away at Oudsthoorn for just the 2 of them. Then, on his actual birthday Nic managed to convince Justin to wear his onesie out for breakfast. During breakfast, Nic “forgot” his phone back in the room and went to go collect it. After a few long minutes, he returns dressed as Ash Ketchum (Pikachu’s owner). Justin thought that this was the best birthday gift ever. Obviously the whole hotel just kept staring at these two geeks..

So Nic then planned to take quick photos outside by the pool. Nic started by taking some pics of Justin, then it was Justin’s turn to take photos of Nic. Nic asked Justin (although he rehearsed a number of times in his head) “What is it that Ash says to Pikachu?”, Justin replied “Pikachu, I Choose You!”. So Justin started taking photos on the iPhone in burst mode so we can make animated GIFs. Nic takes out a pokeball and shouts “Pikachu, I Choose You” Fumbles onto one knew and says “Will You Choose Me Too?”.

The first thing Justin could say was “Are you f@#king joking?” and being Nic for who he is replied, “Yes, this is the most expensive, most elaborate joke ever”. Justin knew that this was real…

…and said Yes!!

Tell us what the inspiration behind your wedding was? How was your wedding fitting to your style and personality?

We wanted to keep a lot of personalities including some geeky and fun elements within the wedding but not in a over the top manner.

Keeping it classic, with a bit of forest rustic and throwing in small elements of geek with lots of good food, good wine and amazing music.

Where did you get married and what did you love about your venue?

We decided on the Old Mac Daddy. It really resembles who we are, its quirky, its fun, lots to do and lots to see.
It was our first and only choice for a venue.

Do you have any tips and advice for couples planning a wedding?

Keep it simple and take no bullshit. Its you day and its all about you.
We had a no bullshit policy which helped with politics and nonsense.

We wanted to party so it was important to us to open the dance floor as early as possible, keep the formalities short and just enjoy the evening.

Keep in mind, things will go wrong. Accept it and just take it in your stride.

If you have budget, hire a wedding planner. They are really helpful and to reduce stress on the actual wedding day.

Did your wedding include any do-it-yourself projects?
Yes, the wedding favours were customised portraits of each guest hand painted by Justin (he is an artist and illustrator).

Tell us about your experience working with us!

Nothing but amazing working with Matt. So professional and stylish. Matt made us feel so comfortable and loved every moment in front of the lens. We felt like celebrities and loved every moment of it!

I would highly recommend Matt!
