Matt Masson South African wedding photographer Cape Town Durban Johannesburg

Matt Masson is based in Cape Town and shoots all over South Africa.
He fell in love with photography at the age of fourteen on a family holiday. All of his knowledge of photography is entirely self taught which is a testament to his craft.

After finishing school he studied a business degree however he chose to follow his dreams and become a full time photographer. He has a genuine love for people which allows him to connect and engage with his diverse range of clients.

He has a passion for teaching and helping other photographers and frequently does mentoring and tutoring sessions helping others pursue their visions and improve their business.

He is a proud ambassador for BlackRapid and has spoken for industry giants like Nikon, BlackRapid, Fujifilm, Sony as well as local retailers like Sunshine Co and Cameraland.

Matt is primarily a Cape Town wedding photographer but also shoots lifestyle, commercial, fashion and editorial photography. His style is a mix between creative portraiture and documentary which gives him flexibility and adaptability between a range of different shoots. He opts for more organic and natural imagery as opposed to overly "posed" photos. His goal for each and every shoot is to cultivate a relaxed and fun atmosphere allowing his photos to be more natural, spontaneous and emotive. He strives to push the boundaries of photography by making photos that are truly unique for all his clients.

He has over 8 years of experience in the wedding industry and has photographed over 300 weddings and shoots around South Africa and the world. Matt has traveled all around South Africa, photographing in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban all travel-free for his clients.

Matt has included a complimentary engagement shoot in all of his wedding packages which allows us to get to know each other before the big day. This also gives couples an idea of what to expect come wedding day and helps clients feel more comfortable in front of the camera.

    life-long learning

Matt is a strong believer in constant life-long learning and he constantly tries to learn and grow in his skills through reading how-to articles, watching learning material, listening to podcast and analysing the wedding industry both locally and internationally.

Matt fell in love with photography at the early age of 14 while he was on a Christmas holiday with family. When he got back to school the following year, he made it his mission to read every book on photography that he could get his hands. He taught himself everything that he knows about his craft which helped him propel his passion into his career.
